A Church For All Times
The History of our Church begins in 1892, when the Congregation
organized under the leadership of Pastor Witke, who came from Germany. The first
parish building, pictured here, was built in 1894, on West Street, Seymour. The
building was enlarged, renovated, and dedicated again in 1942. Immanuel
continued to grow on West Street by merging with St. Paul's Lutheran Church of
Ansonia, in 1964.
Immanuel moved to its current
location in 1966, with Services and Sunday School both held in Rev. Borchert
Hall. The pictures shown here are from the first year, before the Sanctuary was
built. The Parish named the hall in honor of Rev. Otto Borchert, Immanuel's
Pastor for 33 years, from 1933 to 1970. The Sanctuary and education rooms were
completed and dedicated to serve the Lord in June 1975.
Here we stand, entering our third century as Parish members of the Valley community. Let us be inspired by the stewardship and dedication of those that came before us. As we look to the future, may we continue our story of faith and service under God.
